Corporate Philosophy
We believe that innovation, holistic thinking and corporate social responsibility are the hallmarks of a successful company in the 21st century. We take issue with the idea that companies should exist solely for profit or merely strive to be “less bad”; rather, our aim is to integrate policies and practices into our day-to-day operations that will be good for our bottom line, good for human society and good for ecosystems. This approach--known as the triple-bottom line--ensures that our growth will not cause ecological or social harm. Indeed, CG Group, which stands for Capital Good, if founded on the belief that there is money to be made in doing good, provided that innovation, passion and patience are applied to the problem. One of our favorite examples is that of the Grameen Bank, which was founded in the 1970’s by 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, and has grown to become a global force for poverty alleviation and economic development by providing micro-loans to the poor of Bangladesh. Not only is Grameen addressing poverty (and they have since expanded into the mobile phone and renewable energy businesses, among other things), but the bank has turned a profit in all but three years of its existence.
Our core mission is to provide creative, comprehensive solutions and services to our clients. We seek to identify opportunities for saving money, generating positive public relations, minimizing risk of litigation due to environmental concerns (such as poor indoor air quality) and ensuring measurable, tangible ecosystem benefits. One of the ways we achieve these results is by applying the philosophy of the open-source revolution in software to the operations of our own company. What this means is that each member of the company is given the autonomy to let his or her creativity and ideas flourish. Instead of the top-down, hierarchical structure of the 20th century firm, we employ a horizontal structure characterized by collaboration, openness and honesty. The end result, we believe, will be a company that neither strays from its ideals nor flounders under their weight, but rather grows thanks to an adherence to the core principles that brought it into being.
